McDonald’s marketing team has a tough job to do. They have to rename the brand of McDonald’s from the company that made all Us people overweight to one that approves green and low carb food.

With around 40 thousand locations worldwide and serving 68 million people every day, when it comes to food. McDonald’s it’s the first one.

Most of the sold food at McDonald’s is high-carb like burger buns, fries and also shakes. However, with a few modifications, you can have low carb food.

I know you are hungry so let’s dive into the delicious meals you can eat at McDonald’s

Keto Keto McDonalds Breakfast

One of the best things that McDonald’s has is that you can have the breakfast menu all day long. Of course, all breakfast menu is not keto friendly. The ones that you should avoid are oatmeal, parfait, and hotcakes. Many sources say that you should also avoid The Big Breakfast menu, but that’s not true at all. I don’t avoid it and I am just doing fine with keto for over 3 years now. However, you should modify that menu. You must avoid biscuits and hash browns. This whole meal has only 2 grams of net carbs, so is definitively a go.

Here are some other breakfast options you can have

  • Bacon, cheese McGriddles and egg
  • Steak, cheese biscuit, and egg
  • Sausage McMuffin with only egg

Customize Food Calories On Your Own

As I have already covered many other restaurant chains in this blog and their keto options. All of them had their nutrition information on their website.

It would be a little steep if McDonald’s didn’t have it, right?

However, you should still get some advice if you want to customize the food on your own. You should pay attention to the amount of carbs of the meal and total calorie count

First, head over to McDonald’s Calculator and select the food that you want to customize.

Keto McDonalds

This is the usual nutrition that cheeseburgers have. 300 calories, 12 total fat, 33g of total carbs and 15g of protein.

However, let’s remove the bun and see what happens.

As you can see now this Cheeseburger now has 150 calories, 10g of total fat, 5g of total carbs and 10g of proteins.

Their calculator is pretty easy to use. I have customized around 5 meals and saved them, so I don’t have any problem when I want to eat at McDonald’s.

Bunless Burgers Keto McDonalds

One of the top foods that have been existing since McDonald’s is without a doubt burger. However, the bad thing about people who are on keto is that they are with buns which are usually topped with sesame seeds.

Nowadays, many other food chains and including McDonald’s have bunless burgers. I also like that they serve bunless burgers wrapped with lettuce.

This burger has 380 calories, 25 grams of protein and 27 grams of fat. This is a fine portion for me, however if not for you. Then you can customize with their calculator and even order it.

If that is not a good fit for you, here are some other options that can use.

Cheeseburger – You should know that cheese layer it gives an extra 80 calories.

Bacon McDouble – We all love the taste of bacon, don’t we? Well, I do for sure as even a regular burger it makes taste a hundred times better. One McDouble has 420 calories, 28 grams of protein, 6 grams of carbs, and 23 grams of fat.

You can also try other burgers on their menu, just be careful with their calories. I just need to mention that I also tried triple cheeseburger and actually it was pretty tasty.

McDonald’s Keto Drinks

Water – Pure bottled water is one of the best drinks to keep you hydrated and without any risk for ketosis. I try to consume it with every meal and as often as I can.
Diet Coke – However, sometimes we will be tired of only drinking water, without a juice, right? You should know that diet coke still has artificial sweeteners and different enzymes and flavors. I try to avoid it as much as I can so I don’t think I drink more than one diet coke a month.

Vanilla Iced Coffe – It is known on the menu with full name as Sugar-Free French Vanilla Iced Coffe. It is sugar-free but it contains 5 grams of fat and 9 grams of carbs. I make sure to combine it with my food macros.

Apple Slices and Mandarin Oranges – It contains 4 grams of net carbs and that’s why I consider it as a side dish (including Vanilla Iced Coffe).

Stay away from Sauces

Many foods wouldn’t be so tasty if it weren’t for the sauces. McDonald’s has a variety of them to choose from which makes me scared that you won’t resist, haha.

It was very tempting for me to not order sauces because they add a great taste to the food. However, you must know that they kick you out of ketosis immediately.

That is because they are based flour and use sugar that is refined (which is very bad even for people that are not on diet)

However, if you are a big fan of sauce as I am. I’ve found some that you can add to your food without the slightest problem.

The list includes Mayonnaise with 90 calories, Mustard which I like to use on beef patties and Spicy Buffalo Sauce at just 1g of carb per the whole package.

To Sum It Up

While most of the time I cook at home, sometimes I just need to get out. I usually use McDonald’s and Jimmy John’s like both of them already have low carb foods on their menu.
