Texas Roadhouse Keto

Being on a diet is never the easiest decision to make, and requires tons of self-discipline and commitment. However, that does not mean you strip away all the fun that comes with eating, especially on the occasion you go with your friends or family to eat out. When you are on this specific diet plan, you need to avoid bread at all costs, but there is something you can eat in plenty aside from cheese and butter – steak.

If you are planning to eat at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, there is good news for you; it is an entire chain that puts its devotion to making the best steaks ever. However, that does not mean you can devour anything that they offer even if it is steak – that is a rule you must always remember when you eat out.

The best bet you have is sticking to meals that have 50 grams or less of carbs, and stay away from any glazes or sugary sauces. The side dishes are important as well – instead of eating fried or baked potatoes, you can choose a plate of low carb vegetables like spinach or broccoli.

However, you might not have enough time to scour through an entire menu and the nutritional info on each ingredient, so we have written a quick guide for you to use the next time you go out.

Tips for ordering your Texas Roadhouse Keto

The best advice we can give you is you should stick to preparing your own meals as much as you can. While steakhouses are great when eating out, the ingredients are likely not as Keto-friendly as those you would buy directly from your favorite grocery store. Here are some tips you can follow:

Count the macros

The goal of most Keto dieting is to make the body stay in the ketosis process (burning fat instead of glucose). The best way to choose the best foods is visiting the extensive nutritional guide and see the meals that fit in with your macro-nutritional needs. Note that at all times, the carb count must always be 5% or less of the total calories you consume, the protein at 20%, and the fat at 70 to 75%.

However, if the goal is to consume a low carb diet, then you can consume anything without worrying too much about the numbers.

Stick to steak

Steak is the best choice for a Keto diet, due to the following reasons:

  • It gives you higher amounts of fat than chicken, and it does not come smeared in sauces
  • Steak dishes always come with low carb vegetable side dishes
  • You will always be full, since it comes in 10, 12 or 16 ounce servings

Avoid sauces

Many of the options you have, especially the burgers, will always come with a sauce added. In addition, the ribs can also be sauce-added options, so you will have to specify that you get them dry.

The safest bet would be to go with their salads, especially grilled chicken or steakhouse, since they have a good amount of antioxidants, fiber and vitamins. Just note that you should specify that they add vinegar and oil dressing instead of salad dressing.

The starters

Appetizers might be a strange food item to skip, but you should if you are aiming to maintain a Keto diet and want to eat at this establishmentThe reason is they include high carb options like cheese fries, rattlesnake bites (fried cheese dough balls), and potato skins.

Things you can order

Note that Texas Roadhouse outlets only open between 4 PM and 11 PM, so the only option would be to go for a late lunch or dinner. We start with the safest options.

Salads

In all the options, specify that there be no croutons, and instead ask for vinegar or lemon slice and oil toppings. Some salads include:

  • Chicken Caesar
  • Caesar salad
  • House salad
  • Steakhouse fillet salad
  • Grilled chicken salad

Ribs and steak

When ordering the side dish, avoid high carb options such as green beans, corn, potatoes, rice, applesauce, and chili. Choose onions, sautéed mushroom or house salad. These ribs and steaks include:

  • USDA Choice Sirloin
  • Ft. Worth Ribeye
  • Dallas fillet
  • Filet medallions or steak kabob (with extra veggies and no rice)
  • Bone-in ribeye
  • New York strip
  • Porterhouse T-bone
  • Road kill
  • Half or full slab of ribs
  • Prime rib

Chicken, dockside or country favorites

All of these must not include their respective sauces.

  • BBQ roasted half chicken
  • Portobello mushroom chicken
  • Smothered chicken (instead of gravy, get jack cheese)
  • Oven roast half chicken
  • Grilled shrimp, salmon, BBQ chicken or pork chops
  • Beef tips

Sandwiches and burgers

They should not include the sauce or bun, and preferably come with side salad that has vinegar and oil dressing. They should also not include fries or croutons.

  • All American cheeseburger
  • Mushroom jack cheese sandwich
  • BBQ chicken sandwich
  • Smokehouse burger
  • Bacon cheeseburger

Combos

  • Ft. Worth rib eye combo
  • Dallas fillet combos
  • BBQ roast half chicken
  • BBQ grilled chicken
  • USDA choice sirloin

What to avoid

  • Appetizers – we explained it above, and you can also get the ribs without the steak fries and sauce
  • Chicken critter salad – it is the fried version of grilled chicken salad
  • Chili – you would rather ask your server first if it has beans, otherwise just avoid it completely
  • Country fried sirloin and chicken
  • Chicken critters
  • Pulled pork dinner – it seems not to have a no-sauce option
  • Country veg plate – has too many carbs, although it is vegetarian-friendly
  • Pulled pork sandwich
  • Fried catfish
  • Sweetened beverages – all of them

Final thoughts

Sticking to a Keto diet can be challenging, but there are eateries that offer quite the experience even for strict dieters – Texas Roadhouse being one of them. You will likely not be disappointed by the Keto-friendly options on offer, and will likely be satisfied when you finish your food.

You just need to be careful about the food pitfalls that may happen, although this is nothing to worry about if you do not eat out frequently (as recommended by various Keto diet nutritional plans).
